Official opening of new rural affordable housing scheme in Caunton
Six new affordable homes set in a rural location have been officially unveiled in a partnership project run in Newark and Sherwood.
Hedge Row, Caunton, which is north of Newark, has been developed by Nottingham Community Housing Association in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and Newark and Sherwood District Council, which worked closely with Caunton Parish Council over several years to deliver the project.
The scheme, which offers homes to meet the increasing need for affordable rural housing, offers six two and three bedroom homes – built by Waters Homes – for shared ownership and affordable rent.
The homes include a number of eco-friendly measures, including photovoltaic panels, electric storage heating and high levels of insulation. The scheme is an example of how excellence in design and planning can deliver attractive affordable homes for local people.
Councillor Bruce Laughton, Chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Homes and Communities Committee, said: “There is an acute shortage of affordable housing in Newark and Sherwood, especially in villages such as Caunton.
“We are delighted that by working with the parish council and other stakeholders we were able to identify a suitable site to provide these much needed homes. Providing affordable housing in rural areas will always be difficult but as in this case where you have a willing landowner and stakeholders working together, good things can happen.”
Lisa Raine, Project Manager at NCHA, said: “Our ongoing partnership with Newark & Sherwood District Council, the HCA and Waters Homes has bought this new development to life providing sensitively designed, affordable rural homes in perpetuity for local residents.”
